can’t catch my tail

This mural was created over two days for Scrawl Fest 2024, an annual event where dozens of local artists come together to produce over 50 transportable murals. This year’s festival took place in the back lot of 400 West Rich, the very location where Urban Scrawl began over 18 years ago. Throughout the weekend, hundreds of guests wandered through, watching as each artist brought their vision to life. The event shines a spotlight on Franklinton’s vibrant art scene and the creative, unique community that has thrived here for so many years.

Lauren’s mural began with a sculptural foundation, using joint compound and plaster to build texture and dimension on the first day. As she worked on the second day, the mural's theme revealed itself, inspired by the process and unexpected insights. Guests described the piece as "oceanic," "mermaid-like," and reminiscent of "Ursula," which sparked Lauren’s vision of a mermaid’s map—depicting patterns of swimming away and the essence of escape.

This 4’x8’ panel is currently on display at The Promenade Gallery inside the 400 West Rich Studios building. It will be available for auction during Art for Franklinton in Spring 2025, ready to find its new home and continue its story.
